Bibliophilia: a (lost) love for books

Bibliophilia: a (lost) love for books

On May 18th, from 1pm to 2pm, there will be another edition of the FEUP Reading Club. The session will be conducted by José Manuel Martins Ferreira, Professor of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, passionate about books and old photographs and author of five works, three of them related to bibliophilia. Nuno dos Santos Canavez, current owner of Académica Bookshop, founded in 1912, will also be present. This year, Nuno dos Santos Canavez is celebrating 75 years of commercial activity as a bookseller.

Bibliophilia is the art of collecting books, paying special attention to some of their peculiarities. Bibliophiles value not only the content of the book but also its physical beauty, such as special bindings, illustrations and limited editions. Bibliophiles may spend hours in bookshops, second-hand booksellers or libraries simply browsing through old books. They appreciate the smell of books and prefer reading physical books to digital versions.

This edition of the Reading Club will take place on Level 0 of the FEUP Library.

We invite the whole community to embrace the passion for books in this Reading Club session, and also through reading the books available in the showcase on Level 0 of the library.
