500 years since the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões

500 years since the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões

On 5 June, from 1pm to 2pm, there will be another session of the FEUP Reading Club. For this session we have invited Zulmira Santos, Full Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. Fernando Maciel Barbosa, Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, will moderate the session.

Luís de Camões, considered one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language and a central figure in world literature, turned 500 in 2024. His legacy is celebrated not only in Portugal, but throughout the Portuguese-speaking world, for his monumental contribution to literature and culture.

To celebrate the 500th anniversary of Luís de Camões is to celebrate the very essence of Portuguese literature and culture. His work, rich in artistic and historical value, continues to resonate through the centuries, reminding us of the enduring power of poetry and the human capacity to transcend time through art. Camões is not just a poet of the past; he is a living and inspiring presence in world literature.

We invite the whole community to take part in this Reading Club session.
