On 13 February, from 1 pm to 2 pm, there will be another session of the Reading Club, this time dedicated to the “Caminos de Santiago”.
For this session, we have invited Luís Ferreira, the greatest Portuguese writer on the Way of St James. The session will be moderated by A. Augusto de Sousa, retired professor at FEUP. The session will take place in the library, on Floor 0, room C003.
About the writer:
He was born in Barreiro on 8 May 1970 and currently lives in Alcochete. He began his literary career in 2007, publishing one book of poetry per year until 2011. In 2012, his literary career took a different turn when he discovered and travelled the Camino de Santiago. This passion is reflected in his first book of prose, published in 2013, ‘Entre o Silêncio das Pedras’ (Among the Silence of the Stones), which has already had four editions. In 2014, the book was published in Brazil and in 2021 in Poland. After this novel, he published Diário de Xavier Lopes (Diary of Xavier Lopes), later co-authored Olhares de um peregrino de Santiago (Views of a Pilgrim of Santiago) and, in 2016, O Peregrino (The Pilgrim), a novel that will reach its third edition in 2022 and will also be published in Poland in 2024. In 2018, he published his first thriller, entitled ‘A Sombra da Verdade’ (The Shadow of Truth). In 2020, he returns with a new novel about the Camino de Santiago, whose title is an invitation to inner reflection: ‘Porque caminhas?’ (Why do you walk?). Taking advantage of the break due to the pandemic, he decided, in addition to his research and dissemination work on the subject, to attend three courses on the Camino de Santiago organised in partnership with Miriadax/University of Santiago de Compostela: ‘El Camino de Santiago Patrimonio de la Humanidad para un mundo global’ (The Camino de Santiago World Heritage Site for a global world), ‘El Camino de Santiago enfoques didáticos multidisciplinares’ (The Camino de Santiago multidisciplinary teaching approaches), and ‘El Camino de Santiago en las redes sociales’ (The Camino de Santiago on social media).
In 2021, he republished the book ‘Diário de Xavier Lopes’ (Xavier Lopes' Diary) with the title ‘O teu caminho’ (Your Path) due to enormous demand from his readers. In 2023, he launched his first travel book entitled ‘282’, which was recognised in June 2024 and included in the National Reading Plan catalogue. In 2024, he published the travel book ‘Um caminho que tempo não apagou’ (A path that time has not erased), which was the fastest book to reach its second edition, just one week after its release. In 2025, he embarked on a new challenge and launched his first children's book, ‘Vamos a Santiago’ (Let's go to Santiago). His dedication to the Camino de Santiago has earned him several honours in Galicia and Portugal, where he is unanimously recognised as the greatest author of fiction on this subject.
